Celebrating female pioneers and equality. In celebration of the 43rd anniversary of Title IX, the poignant Wendy Mink describes the work of her mother, Title IX Co-Author Patsy Mink, and others: "The people who were committed to it [Title IX] for 40 years have brought us a very long way, and we should learn from the way they fought their struggles, as we figure out the way to move forward."
Ray Nagel, Athletic Director at the University of Hawaii from 1976-1983, passed away in January. He was 87 years old.
Mr. Nagel is featured in our documentary film, Rise of the Wahine. Though he was instrumental in elevating UH from an independent into a conference, he is a polarizing figure in our film. It was a time when funding was being redistributed to launch first-ever women's programs due to Title IX.
Our prayers and warm wishes to the Nagel family.
"Title IX gave us the necessary push. It brought about the recognition that we did not have equality. Title IX brought about the visibility that was the catalyst for improving our program."
